Summary
Trial trenching in 1996 adjacent to Congleton Town Hall produced evidence for at least two phases of 19th century brick buildings (walls) and a cobbled surface. These structures appear to represent a rapid succession of re-builds/alterations which also incorporated a drain culvert and possible brick sump. This activity pre-dates the current building.
