Monument record 2766/2/2 - Parallel Earthworks in Birtles Old Hall Park

Please read our .

Summary

Two parallel banks (earthworks) are clearly visible on a north-west to south-east alignment. The alignment of the banks suggests that this maybe a former drive leading to the hall. However, this may also be field boundaries and a trackway from the pre-parkland landscape.

Full Description

<1> Bluesky International Ltd, 2010, 2010 Bluesky Survey (Aerial Photograph). SCH5444.

Two parallel banks (earthworks) are clearly visible on a north-west to south-east alignment. Fragmentary ridge and furrow earthworks are visible on either side (aligned north-west to south-east to the west and east to west on the eastern side), but there is no clear relationship. The alignment of the banks suggests that this maybe a former drive leading to the hall. However, this may also be field boundaries and a trackway from the pre-parkland landscape.
