Monument record 7817 - Site of Ashbrook Towers

Summary

The site of Ashbrook Towers, a country house built in the late nineteenth century and heavily influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. The house was located within a quite heavily wooded park, with a terrace to the immediate south-west of the house, glasshouses and a possible walled garden to the north-west, and a series of what may be terraced lawns to the south. The house was demolished after a fire in 1934, and by the late 1940s, only earthworks remain to denote the site of the house, garden, and lawns. Although the former earthworks are no longer extant, the site continues to have a high potential for below ground archaeological remains associated with the house, terrace, and walled garden. The earthworks associated with the terraced lawns are still extant.
