Full Description

<1> Gifford and Partners, 1993, Warrington Southern Expressway Phase III: Archaeological Assessment Report (Client Report). SCH4147.

An archaeological assessment undertaken in 1993 in advance of the Warrington Southern Expressway road development identified the possible presence of a brick kiln in the vicinity of Tilley Street, Warrington. The evidence for this comes from field names recorded in the Tithe Awards and Tithe Map (see 2) dating to 1839: one field being called 'Brick Fields' and two adjacent fields both with the name 'Brick Kiln Field'. Possible medieval date, but probably post medieval.
