Summary

Aerial photographs show a bank crossing the bases of a narrow shallow valley in which runs the River Weaver. This bank is very similar to the mill dams seen at other medieval mill sites in Cheshire where the mill would typically be located on the dam. This site could be the Burley Mill mentioned in documentary sources (see CHER 2118).

Full Description

A linear earthwork is visible in a narrow shallow valley. The bank is slightly curved and crosses the line of the River Weaver between the valley sides. There is a possible gap on the eastern side.

The bank appears to be still extant, but looks less defined.

Seems consistent with other extant medieval mill dams in Cheshire. May possibly be the Burley Mill mentioned in documentary sources (see CHER 2118).
