Full Description
<1> W Walker, 2013, Correspondance on Trinity Street, 2013 (Written Communication). SCH7246.
Excavations within Trinity Hall, George St., beginning June 2013 revealed complex multi-period stratigraphy. Although the results of these excavations are not yet published (as of October 2013), it is possible that two burials oriented north - south, and one oriented east - west date to the Saxon period. First interpreted as Roman, unusual finds were found in association with the horizons that the graves were cut into, including a fragment of clear glass and a sherd of Chester Ware. One grave fill had another fragment of Chester Ware situated below the skull. No other information on these remains is available at this time.
<2> Earthworks Archaeological Services, 2016, Redevelopment at the Former George Street School, George Street, Chester - Archaaeological Excavations (Client Report). SCH8065.
Excavation in area two revelaed six graves. Nails were found in grave cuts which suggests coffined burials. All but one were interred approximately North-South, with a single grave with an East-West orientation
