Archaeological investigations to the south of Pepper Street in 2013 recorded evidence of a posible oven, furnace or kiln to the rear of the Pepper Street frontage. The feature appears to be medieval in date and likely relates to backyard activity from plots fronting onto Pepper Street.
The evidence comprised several soil layers from trench 6 including traces of sandstone and burnt clay at a depth of 0.30m below present ground level. The features were not investigated further at this point, however.
