<1> Earthworks Archaeological Services, 2013, Proposed Redevelopment of the Former Habitat Unit, Pepper Street, Chester and Archaeological Evaluation, R3530 (Client Report). SCH7239.
Archaeological investigations to the south of Pepper Street in 2013 recorded evidence of medieval occupation close to the Pepper Street frontage.
The evidence comprised a soil layer [509] and a probable clay floor [510] with associated finds of a medieval date from trench 5. The medieval layers were encountered at a depth of 0.7m below present ground level and extended to a depth of 1.35m.
