Earliest map evidence of terraced houses between Park Street and the City Walls comes from a late 18th century map of Chester. This map records four stretches of terracing between the Newgate and the corner with Duke Street.
<2> Ordnance Survey, 1872-1875, Metric Ten Foot Scale Town Plan of Chester (Maps and Plans). SCH6780.
Historic maps including the mid 19th century Ordnance Survey Town Plans recorded a series of small terraced houses built between Park Street and the City Walls.
<3> L-P Archaeology, 2013, Archaeological Excavation Report for Roman Gardens Gate, Chester, R3518 (Client Report). SCH7220.
Recent archaeological investigations in the passageway between Park Street and the Roman Gardens recorded a number of brick walls - contexts [12] and [15] - that were tentatively dated to the 19th century. Historic photographic evidence in the report indicate the buildings were three storeys.
