Full Description
<1> L-P Archaeology, 2012, Archaeological Evaluation Report Stage 1: Northgate Avenue, Chester, R3446 (Client Report). SCH7072.
Archaeological investigations at the Northgate Arena car park in 2012 encountered evidence of a sandstone structure of Roman date towards the centre of the site.
The evidence comprised a linear cut [308] for a sandstone structure [309] on a northeast to southwest alignment. The structure comprises a series of rough cut sandstone blocks forming a wall. Although no dating evidence was recovered from the structure itself, it appears to be contemporary with a soil deposit encountered across the site dated to the first to third century AD.
