Archaeological investigations at Gorse Stacks in 2002 recorded evidence of a possible timber structre in trench 12 at the western end of the site. The evidence was confined to the northeast end of the trench and comprised a linear cut [115] interpreted as a possible beam slot, approximately 1.5m in length and aligned northeast to southwest. Immediately southeast of this a circular cut feature [117] and a second circular cut feature [113] to the northwest were also excavated, both were interpreted as possible post holes.

The trench also identified two further features [109 & 111] believed to be refuse pits and a further linear feature [107] thought to be a boundary ditch or drainage feature.
