Archaeological investigations at Gorse Stacks in 2002 recorded evidence of a stone structure, probably a culevert in trench 9 to the west of the site. The evidence comprised a north-east to south-west aligned cut [Context 68] approximately 2.5m in length and 1.7m in width. The cut was found to contain a channel 0.6m wide and lined on either side with vertical stone walls [Context 69] each 0.65m in depth. A small quantity of Roman ceramics was also encountered in the fill of the channel.
