Full Description
Small quantity of Roman pottery recovered during archaeological investigations at the junction between St Anne Street and George Street in 1970. The evidence primarily comprised pottery wasters and over fired material of a late first to early second century date.
Preliminary assessment of the pottery carried out in the 1970s suggested a link with another assemblage of pottery from a site on City Road and it is uncertain whether the assemblage from St Anne Street represents a nearby pottery kiln or a secondary dump site from another location. The work was carried out as salvage recording in advance of the development of the inner ring road and the results have yet to be published in full. (1)
