Summary

Walmoor House was originally built as a private dwelling in 1896 by John Douglas, it was later converted into a girls school then County Fire Service headquarters. It is of sandstone in an Elizabethan style with a grey-green slate roof with a T shaped plan. The east, entrance front comprises a squat three storey tower with an octagonal stair turret against a two storey projecting porch to the left and a crenellated tower to the right. The interior retains many features including the principal reception room, now conference room, the stair and notably the oratory in the chamber above the main entrance.
