Full Description
Construction work for a new drainage trench at Garth Drive, Bache in 1973 uncovered evidence of a wooden feature. Originally interpreted as a dugout canoe it was later re-interpreted as a some kind of shute cut from a single piece of oak about 3m in length, 0.50m wide and 0.35m deep. Much of the core had been dug out to create a trough with an opening at one end. The blocked end was marked with a number of indentations while a series of peg holes were recorded along the edge. Its exact purpose and date is uncertain. (1)
