Summary

An area of predominately east-west aligned ridge and furrow earthworks visible on aerial photographs. The furlongs are divided boundaries marked by ditches, and in some instances, ditches and banks. Many of these features display the reversed S shape associated with medieval ploughing. Although the ridge and furrow is not visible within the woodland adjacent to Eaton Road, many of the former furlong boundaries are. These features conform to boundaries depicted on the 1842 tithe map for this area.

An area of predominately east-west aligned ridge and furrow earthworks visible on aerial photographs (see 2 & 3). The furlongs (or shots) are divided boundaries marked by ditches, and in some instances, ditches and banks. Many of these features display the reversed S shape (aratral) associated with medieval ploughing.

These features are very distinct in processed LIDAR survey data (see 4). Although the ridge and furrow is not visible within the woodland adjacent to Eaton Road, many of the former furlong boundaries are. These features conform to boundaries depicted on the tithe map (see 5) for this area.
