Full Description
Archaeological investigations at the former MOD headquarters, Queen’s Park, Chester encountered evidence post medieval deposits.
The evidence comprised a deposit of sandstone fragments and river cobbles at a depth of 0.32m below present ground level containing quantities of charcoal, pottery and some brick. The pottery was dated to the 17th to 18th century and included some kiln waste fragments. (1)
This deposit then sealed an earlier, undated, deposit of cobblestones set in a sandy clay matrix at a depth of 0.70m below the present ground surface.
