Summary

Archaeological investigations in the Crook Street area between 1963 and 1965 identified a number of medieval pits cutting the earlier archaeology. The excavations were carried out under emergency salvage conditions over a large area and in consequence the focus was always on the potential Roman deposits, however, site notes from the excavations do document a number of pits of medieval date from excavated beneath the present Hamilton House.

Archaeological investigations in the Crook Street area between 1963 and 1965 identified a number of medieval pits cutting the earlier archaeology. The excavations were carried out under emergency salvage conditions over a large area and in consequence the focus was always on the potential Roman deposits, however, site notes from the excavations do document a number of pits of medieval date from trench 1 excavated beneath the present Hamilton House.
