Full Description
At the city walls near the Grosvenor Hotel, a section that had been previously reconstructed following a partial collapse in 2008, test excavations were carried out as part of a rapid assessment in the narrow passageway between the Grosvenor Hotel and the city wall facing onto St John St., up against an offset course at the base of the city wall on its west side. A stratigraphically important soil layer was recorded, that separates the upstanding city wall from the offset course below, and has the potential to provide datable material (although none was recovered from this investigation) (1).
