Full Description
During excavations at the amphitheatre site between 2001 and 2003 (ECH4299), a probable stone-lined pit dating to the later medieval or early post medieval period was recorded. The pit was lined with a number of coursed stone blocks, of which seven courses were visible. Because the feature was in the very corner of the excavation area (Trench VI), no more than two blocks of any course were visible. The feature sloped down into the trench, and had a cut that could be clearly defined (1). The excavators stated that the feature resembled the stone lining of a medieval or post medieval pit (1).
