Full Description

During an archaeological evaluation where nine test pits were excavated in the southern part of the Roman Gardens (or the land to the west of Souter's Ln.) in 1999, medieval pottery dating to the thirteenth or fourteenth centuries and a small amount of window glass was recovered. The land is known to have been open or wooded throughout the medieval period, and these residual finds may have arrived on site over the course of twentieth century landscaping relating to the construction of the former bowling green and a terrace overlooking it (1, 2).
