Full Description
During the excavation of three trial trenches at the site of the former St Augustine’s convent on the south side of Union St., in Trench 3, a foundation of bricks and sandstone blocks bonded with white mortar was recorded (1, 2). These remains were interpreted as the foundation of a building that stood on the site prior to the construction of the convent, and was possibly the building showing on the town plan of 1850 at this location (3).
