Full Description
An archaeological watching brief undertaken during ground disturbance in relation to the construction of an electricity sub-station at the northeast edge of Grosvenor Park in 2002 revealed an air raid shelter from World War II. This shelter was decommissioned between 1945 and 1960 (1). The shelter was identified as a series of concrete slabs, that had covered a series of steps leading down into a cut, and containing sandbags. The sandbags were not disturbed and the structure was preserved in situ (1).
