Full Description
Archaeological investigations at the New Crane Street car park outside the Watergate in 2002 identified evidence of late 18th to 19th century terraced housing recorded in the area on historic maps.
Evidence of structural activity was identified in trenches A and B of the excavations close to the New Crane Street frontage with deposits containing largely 19th century material identified to a depth of 1.20m below present ground level in trench A and structural remains in trench B. The evidence from trench B consisted of the walls and cellars of two buildings of different dates. (1)
