Full Description
An archaeological investigation at New Crane Street in 2003 identified evidence of a substantial soil layer indicative of land reclamation in the 17th century.
The evidence consisted of deposits of rubbish and soil approximately 1m thick containing quantities of material from the late 17th century. However, the attempts at reclamation appear to be only partially successful with evidence of layers of silt from flooding events overlying the reclamation deposits. (1)
