Full Description
St Thomas’ Church is a parish church, built 1869-72 by Sir George G Scott with a nave completed later by JO Scott. The church is of squared red sandstone with graded grey green slate roof in the early 13th century style. The nave and the north and south aisles of five bays each are under separate roofs, there is also a two bay chancel with north chapel while the south east tower has only two of the intended three stages in height.
West window 1885 by Kempe; rectangular font on 4 colonnettes; pedestal pulpit with polished colonnettes; carved choir-stalls; reredos 1909 by CE Deacon with statues of Saints Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and Uriel standing above; reredos 1913 by CE Deacon in the NE chapel. No clerestory. (1)
