Monument record 10890 - Post Medieval Brick Hearth or Furnace, 76 Lower Bridge Street

In 1976 an extension was constructed to the rear of 76 Lower Bridge St. (then 'Napcolor'), entailing excavation of an area of c25 square metres in the backyard, to a depth of 0.75m below the existing surface. A post medieval brick hearth or furnace was revealed, in addition to pottery from the fifteenth or sixteenth to nineteenth centuries, but it was not published in any detail (1, 2). The finds are reported to be at the Grosvenor Museum (2).
