Full Description
In 1976 an extension was constructed to the rear of 76 Lower Bridge St. (then 'Napcolor'), entailing excavation of an area of c 25 square metres in the backyard, to a depth of 0.75m below the existing surface. A post medieval brick hearth or furnace was revealed (CHER 10890), which partially sealed an area of dumped deposits containing Roman period finds (CHER 8135). Also found was (presumably residual) medieval roof tile fragments and pottery, that is not described in any detail (1, 2). The finds are reported to be at the Grosvenor Museum (2).
