Archaeological investigations at Russell Street in 2002 identified features relating to 18th century settlement including structural remains of several workers houses fronting onto Steam Mill Street, rubbish pits and a probable well feature.
The evidence consisted several brick built walls and a sandstone floor in trench 1 and a brick paved area in trench 3. (1)
