Full Description
Archaeological investigations at 20 City Road in 2007 prior to redevelopment identified traces of post medieval garden activity. The evidence consisted of a well made circular sandstone well [179] measuring 1.8m in diameter with two sandstone plinths nearby [117, 118]. The plinths were of rough sandstone construction of a possible 18th century date. Two cess pits [223, 253] were also excavated along with a linear feature [187] tentatively interpreted as a boundary ditch. The evidence here appears quite distinct from the earlier tanning activity (CHER 10927). (1)
