Summary

Archaeological investigations at George Street in 2002 identified a layer containing particularly large quantities of 17th century material. The evidence consisted of a dumped soil accumulation in area A of the excavations containing domestic waste including pottery and clay pipe of a mid to late 17th century date. The soil accumulation was encountered across the site at depth of approximately 1m below present ground level.

Archaeological investigations at George Street in 2002 identified a layer containing particularly large quantities of 17th century material.

The evidence consisted of a dumped soil accumulation in area A of the excavations containing domestic waste including pottery and clay pipe of a mid to late 17th century date. The soil accumulation was encountered across the site at depth of approximately 1m below present ground level. (1)
