Summary

An iron foundry was established on George Street sometime between 1848 and 1862 by Arthur and James Rigg. Archaeological investigations carried out on the adjacent site recorded a small quantity of industrial waste, probably from the foundry. It is recorded on Ordnance Survey maps from the 1870s 1st edition to the mid 1960s edition.

Full Description

An iron foundry was established on George Street sometime between 1848 and 1862 by Arthur and James Rigg. Archaeological investigations carried out on the adjacent site recorded a small quantity of industrial waste, probably from the foundry. (1) It is recorded on Ordnance Survey maps from the 1870s 1st edition to the mid 1960s edition. (2-4)

Recent archaeological investigations at Trinity Street recorded remains associated with the nearby iron foundry, however the site has not yet been published (6)
