Summary

Priory Place consists of a several rows of identical cottages, built around 1898-1899 for the Chester Cottage Improvement Company with the intention of providing model dwelling for the working people as an early form of social housing. The complex consists of a row of three cottages on Love Street, two rows of five cottages on Priory Place facing south and two rows of three cottages on Priory Place facing east. They are of stone dress brown brick with blue diapering. The roof is of grey slate with a main ridge parallel to the front. Each cottage is two storeys of a single bay width with a gable end. The front facade of each property consists of a door set above the street level by one step and stone mullioned 3 light casements. There is a brick band at first floor level. The central gable of each row is inscribed "C : CI : C".
