Brick band at first floor; stone quoins and mullions to leaded casements, one of 3-lights and one of one light to each cottage; cast-iron rainwater pipes with ornate heads. Bargeboards to front gables; central gable has terracotta panel inscribed "C : CI : C". A shaped brick chimney in front of ridge and a simple chimney behind ridge above each party wall. The left end has a one-light leaded window to the first floor. The rear, with boarded doors to yards, one-storey rear wings, is simply detailed, with wood casements. INTERIORS not inspected. HISTORICAL NOTE: at the turn of the C19/C20 the Chester Cottage Improvement Company attempted philanthropically to provide model dwellings for working people, a task which the City Council did not have the resources to undertake until after 1918. During the C19 cottages in Love Street had been some of the worst in Chester. See also Priory Place Nos 1-5 (qv). (Bartholomew City Guides: Harris B: Chester: Edinburgh: 1979-: 160-161).
