Full Description
No 31-35 White Friars consists of three town houses, No 31-33 were built as a pair in the late 18th century with No 35 added at a similar time. All three properties have evidence of medieval cellars.
The town houses are of brown brick with a grey slate roof and a ridge parallel to the streets. No 31-33 are three storeys of one bay to each house, No 35 is slightly wider but also of three floors.
Although the cellar at No 31 was not inspected, that at No 33 consisted of medieval coursed sandstone rubble walls to the front, east and west with later brick partitions. The staircase is also of sandstone, but floor was not visible and the ceiling was a later insertion. At No 35 the cellar was similar with sandstone walls showing some toolmarks of perhaps Roman origin. (1)
