Town house, now office. Cellars of medieval origin; late C18, early C19 and late C20. Brown brick, Flemish bond to front; grey slate roof, ridge parallel with front. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 2 windows. Painted stone plinth has boot-scraper recess; door of 2 flush panels and 4 fielded panels and overlight with intersecting tracery in pedimented case with fluted pilasters and shaped dentils; 2 recessed sashes per storey with painted stone sills and wedge lintels, of 12 panes to first and second storeys and 9 panes to third storey; lead rainwater head and upper pipe; painted stone cornice; 2 chimneys on east gable. The rear has a late C20 two storey wing, with a flush sash in old part to each storey, west. INTERIOR: the cellar has covered floor, walls of coursed and random rubble sandstone, some tooled, perhaps reused Roman, and some smooth; oak joists; stone stair; door of 6 fielded panels. The hall has a round archway with fluted pilasters and panelled soffit; cornice. The front room has skirting, dado-rail, sub-panels and fluted pilasters to 2 embrasures, altered basket archway to rear room and plaster cornice. The rear west room has skirting, cast-iron grate, basket-arched chimney-corner alcoves and plaster cornice. The open-string dogleg stair has narrow well, shaped brackets, bobbin newel, 2 stick balusters per step and swept rail. The second storey front room has sub-panels and pilasters to embrasure, late C19 fireplace and plaster cornice. The back west room has a simple wood fireplace and sub-panels and architrave to embrasure. The third storey front east room has sub-panels and architraves to embrasure; the rear west room has a simple fireplace, architrave to embrasure and plaster cornice. Doors in all storeys are replaced.
