Full Description
No 57 Bridge Street is a stone undercroft, currently in use as a shop, of medieval origin with later alterations. The front facade consists of ten steps to Row level at the south end with a modern shop front and central door to the north.
The front section of the undercroft is entirely clad but to the rear there is a stone passage opening into an almost square medieval undercroft beyond which a further passage leads out to the rear. The rear passage is presently 19th century, however, it appears to replace an earlier medieval passage. The entrance into the rear medieval chamber is also of medieval date suggesting the present layout is similar to that of the medieval period. (1)
