Full Description
No 17a Eastgate Street consists of a brick and stone undercroft, currently in use as shops, of a probable medieval origin, however the undercroft in its present state now largely dates to the 18th or 19th century.
The undercroft is fronted by a modern facade with 13 steps leading up to the Row to the east. The building is one bay wide. During recent renovation on the interior, it was noted that the walls were largely 19th century brick. The only medieval evidence was noted in the party wall with the adjacent property (The Boot Inn, CHER 10516) where a small number of sandstone blocks were recorded. (1)
