Full Description
No 25 Watergate Street is a stone undercroft, currently in use as a shop, of probable medieval origin but heavily remodelled in the 19th century. The undercroft is 4.4m wide internally and extends approximately 27m back from the street frontage.
The interior of the undercroft consists of party walls of poor quality rubble sandstone of probable medieval origin, the interior floor level is four steps below that of the exterior floor level. A brick partition was inserted 8.6m from the street frontage divides the shop from the rest of the undercroft. Beyond the partition the undercroft has a brick barrel vault in poor condition. (1)
