Full Description
During archaeological excavations undertaken at the Queen’s School in 1992, on the site of the former City Gaol, evidence of the demolition of the Gaol was identified (1). In both evaluation trenches excavated (as part of ECH3600), demolition layers comprised of a thick rubble from the Gaol buildings were recorded. The Gaol was demolished in 1874, after it stopped being used in 1872.
