Full Description
A series of medieval and post medieval deposits were recorded during archaeological investigations at Hamilton House in 2006. The evidence consisted of an accumulation of soil in the early medieval period (CHER 10246/1) followed by medieval structural evidence (CHER 10246/2).
Dating evidence from the site was limited and only general conclusions can be drawn. It would appear that the soil layer began forming over the earlier Roman features at the site with only medieval pottery recovered from the layer. This was followed in the late medieval building by the construction of a timber framed building however due to the limited nature of the investigations it was impossible to draw any conclusions as to the form and function of the medieval building.
