Full Description
Evidence of medieval or possible post medieval stone robbing of an earlier Roman structure was recorded during archaeological investigations at the former Masonic Lodge in 2006.
The evidence consisted of a possible robber trench of medieval or early post medieval date in a single trench suggesting that the earlier Roman barrack block (CHER 8163) may have once stood to a greater height. The Roman remains were recorded at a relatively shallow depth (0.67m below the present surface) suggesting limited medieval and post medieval activity in the area. (1)
