Description

A single trench measuring 1.5 by 1.5m was excavated by hand in the vicinity of proposed department store escalator pits, which will were to be located in the then bowling green and former Masonic Lodge, positioned between Princess St. and Hunter St., Chester. Roman masonry walls associated with the former military barracks were identified at a depth of c0.67m below ground level.
