Full Description
Archaeological investigations at No 21 Watergate Street in 2002 during the installation of a concrete ramp recorded traces of a deposit of sandstone rubble underlying the early 19th century foundation deposits. A small quantity of post medieval pottery and clay tobacco pipe was also recorded as residual finds. Subsequent excavations underneath the concrete ramp identified a series of deposits from the 18th century to the present day overlying the same sandstone rubble. During both phases of the investigation the sandstone rubble was not investigated. (1)
