Full Description
Archaeological investigations at Forest Street in 2000 identified a series of archaeological deposits of a broadly post medieval date in several trenches across the site. The evidence consisted of a substantial ditch [context 30] on an east west alignment in trench 2 cutting earlier post medieval activity including possible structural remains in trenches 1 and 2. The structural evidence from trench 1 comprised the remains of a backfilled brick half cellar of possible late post medieval/19th century date while the structural evidence from trench 2 suggests an earlier post medieval cellar. (1)
Evidence of deliberate dumping of soil in trenches 2 & 4 dated to the 17th century suggestive of a phase of levelling interpreted by the excavator as infilling of a boggy area. (1)
