Full Description
Rapid archaeological investigations at 26 Foregate Street in 1995 identified a series of medieval and post medieval deposits, however time and health and safety constraints limited the extent to which these features could be identified.
Post medieval evidence consisted of wall foundations for a timber framed building, although dating evidence was limited, the construction and stratigraphic relationship indicated a post medieval date. Following the demolition of this structure, the area saw a build up of cultivation soils cut by several deep pits containing pottery and industrial waste including coal and slag as well as metal working waste.
