Full Description
Archaeological investigations carried out on Commonhall Street in 1993 identified medieval structural activity relating to properties on Bridge Street as well as Pierpoint Lane, believed to have come into use some time in the 13th century.
The earliest evidence of a street frontage on Pierpoint Lane dates to the 13th or 14th century when a stone structure consisting of a fine flagged floor and a stone hearth was recorded. The building was later replaced with a 16th century structure on a slightly different alignment but at least partially overlying the earlier structure. In addition, a number of cess and rubbish pits were recorded. (1)
