Full Description

Part of what is assumed to have been the precinct boundary wall was excavated in the 1974 - 1975 excavations at 30 – 42 Nicholas St., and immediately east of this wall was a pebbled pathway c 1.5m wide, with two consecutive surfaces recorded(1). The earliest consisted of pebbles set in sand, and the later surface consisted solely of fine pebbles. This path was presumably connected in some way to the friary boundary wall, as it ran just outside it (1)

There was no pottery recovered from either surface or between them, but the lower surface sealed a layer that contained a sherd of a jug dating to the thirteenth century, and the upper layer was sealed by a deposit containing pottery dating to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (1).
