Full Description

A medieval spade was recovered during construction work to the rear of Lloyd’s Bank near the Eastgate in 1952. The spade was found at a depth of 5.48m overlying the bedrock. It was described as 1.27m in total length with a T shaped handle and a spade 0.22m wide at the top tapering to a point. A fragment of medieval tile was also found. (1)
