A tannery is recorded on Queen Street on 19th century maps. The tannery buildings comprised a number of tanks in an large courtyard surrounded by a number of buildings. (1)

Archaeological investigations at the site recorded a number of tan pits across the site, many of which were still lined with large oak timbers and contained quantities of oak bark. (2)
